If you’ve ever felt burnt out or just not feeling your best, then you aren’t alone! I recently reached my breaking point, so I knew I had to do something to decompress and get re-energized. I’m always looking for ways to feel my best and boost my mood, so I’m sharing five things I do to help me get out of a funk.
Take a break from social media
Constantly checking and scrolling your phone can be draining and exhausting. It’s a mindless activity that isn’t productive and often leaves you feeling worse. I’m guilty of picking up my phone far too often, so I recently took a day off from social media and was amazed at how good and refreshed I felt afterwards. If you’re on social media all the time and you’re watching everyone else’s life—and we all do sometimes—try moving the app to a different location on your phone and set a limit. If you’re feeling anxiety or burnout and you’re mindlessly opening social media and checking out—again try taking a break from it. Your mind and body will thank you!
Positive affirmations are statements designed to overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. They are the communication between the соnѕсіоuѕ and subconscious part of the mind, and can be extremely powerful and life changing. Go for a walk
Walking is the perfect anti-stress activity, an easy way to get and stay active and a good way to give yourself a mid-day reset with some fresh air. There are so many mental, emotional and physical benefits that come from incorporating walks into your daily routine – improving mood and energy is just one of them! Regular walks help boost mood, reduces stress, fight depression and increase energy levels by modifying your nervous system, especially if you’re walking in the sun or around some greenery! Walking increases oxygen flow throughout your body and levels of cortisol, epinephrine and norepinephrine (all the hormones that boost energy levels).
Journaling is one of my favorite ways to calm my mind before bed – but it’s also a great stress reliever and mood booster. Whether you’re reflecting on your day, working through your thoughts and emotions or listing what you’re thankful for, journaling is a cathartic way to declutter your mind and release any stress and anxieties. It doesn’t have to be a long sit-down task! I like to journal for 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes at night – and sometimes more throughout the day whenever I need to reset.
Talk to a friend or loved one
Social support can help you become more resilient to stress. The emotional support you get from your friends and family (and pets!) can reduce blood pressure, boost your immune system, improve heart health and may even help you live longer. Not to mention, I instantly feel better after phoning a friend or chatting with someone I love!
