The Power of Affirmations & How to Incorporate them Into Your Life

Positive affirmations are statements designed to overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. They are the communication between the соnѕсіоuѕ and subconscious part of the mind, and can be extremely powerful and life changing. We use positive and negative affirmations every day without thinking about it. Negative affirmations generally lead to low self-esteem, poor decision making and negative attitudes. So, positive affirmations can help you rewire your brain and overcome your limiting beliefs. Our minds are a powerful tool. If you think highly of yourself and can see yourself achieving success or happiness, then chances are, those thoughts become reality. The same can be said for negative self-thoughts.

Our brain is constantly adapting and reprogramming itself. Thoughts that are repeated consistently and often enough create a strong connection called a neural pathway. So, every time we make a choice, feel an emotion or take action, that neural pathway becomes stronger, making it easier for our brain to travel down that path. So, you can take matters into your own hands by using positive affirmations to start changing your brain, and ultimately your reality. If you’re wondering what positive affirmations look like, then here are some examples:

-My future is bright and some of my best days are ahead of me

-I am strong and resilient and can cope with anything that is thrown my way

-Happiness is a choice and I have the power to accept or reject my own thoughts

-I love and accept myself for who I am

-There is purpose in my pain and everything happens for a reason

-The gateway to joy is through my gratitude

-I am healthy mind, body and soul

So, if you’re ready to start incorporating positive affirmations into your life, here are some ways you can practice:

Start with 3 to 5 minutes twice per day

I recommend incorporating affirmations into your morning and night routines. Repeat them to yourself for at least 3 to 5 minutes when you wake up and before bed. It’s an easy way to begin and end your day with positive self-thoughts.

Repeat each affirmation about 10 times

Repetition is the key to transformation. When saying them to yourself, focus on the words and believe that what you are saying is true.

Consistency is key

Try to be consistent with your affirmations. It takes time to rewire your brain, so it’s important to begin making them a habit in your everyday life. If you meditate, they can be a great addition to your meditation as well.

Notice your thoughts throughout the day

Just because you incorporate positive affirmations into your routine does not mean they’ll stop negative thoughts from occurring throughout the day. It’s completely normal to have both positive and negative thoughts. When we’re able to acknowledge our thoughts, we can consider whether or not we truly believe them. Being able to interrupt negative thoughts will allow us the choice to redirect them to more positive ones.

Be patient with yourself

Like anything, change takes time. Be patient with yourself and understand that rewiring your brain will not happen over night, and that’s completely okay. Give yourself some grace and don’t judge yourself. Just keep practicing and know that eventually you’ll start to notice a difference in the way you feel.
