Everyone stresses the importance of transitioning your skincare routine from summer to fall/winter – but transitioning your haircare routine is just as important! Even more so with colder temperatures and drier air, your hair is constantly prone to damage, like dullness, thinning, dryness, breakage and frizz. That’s why I love incorporating oils into my haircare routine. Not only are they a hair strengthener but they also help maintain moisture, prevent breakage and add a little extra shine during the winter. Hair oils are loaded with different types of vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids, which are all important for maintaining both a healthy scalp and healthy hair. Moringa oil has been my shortcut to healthy, shiny hair; from strengthening my roots and reducing split ends to moisturizing my scalp and protecting my color-treated hair. It’s one ingredient you should definitely consider adding to your haircare routine!
Moringa oil comes from the seeds of the moringa oleifera tree that is indigenous to India. This oil is ideal to add to your beauty routine because it’s similar to the oil your skin produces naturally. Just a few drops contain vitamins A, B, C, D and E, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium, calcium AND zinc. Unlike other oils that sit on the surface of the skin and leave a greasy after-feel, moringa oil absorbs deep into the skin. So rather than adding moisture to the exterior of dry or damaged hair, moringa oil hydrates the scalp from the inside out and nourishes your hair from the source.
Moringa oil is especially great if color maintenance is a part of your routine. Ever since I went blonde to bronde this winter, I have been using moringa oil to enhance shine and protect my hair against color depletion, dryness and damage.
To improve the overall health of my hair, I like to massage moringa oil into my scalp during my nighttime beauty routine before washing it out the next morning. You can also mix a few drops of moringa oil into your shampoo and conditioner before rinsing it out!
Moringa oil can also be used in your skincare routine. It’s full of oleic acid, which is a fatty acid that supports a healthy skin barrier function and offers amazing anti-aging perks. It also contains vitamin E, which has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Not to mention, moringa oil is also an emollient, which means it acts as a barrier to help seal in moisture – perfect for those struggling with super dry skin or those who just need an extra boost of moisture in the wintertime!
