We all know healthy skin goes beyond your skincare routine. Your diet also plays a big role – and I believe that you can get most – if not everything – you need through nutrition. You’ve probably thrown turmeric into your smoothies, lattes and other recipes, but it also has benefits that go beyond the kitchen. If you’re trying to achieve naturally glowing skin, make sure you’re adding this superfood to your diet!
Turmeric is the most powerful anti-inflammatory herb on the planet, and it’s been used as a natural remedy for its countless healing properties YEARS, dating back to 2500 BCE. Beyond the soothing, anti-inflammatory qualities it provides to skin, this golden spice can also boost your overall energy, improve digestion and support hearth health and cholesteral levels.
Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric, and when it comes to skin health, it targets clogged pores, calms irritated skin and can even reduce acne scarring. Curcumin also decreases the effects of free radicals and helps maintain cell wall strength and integrity. It’s commonly used in Ayurvedic skincare to promote a natural radiance by evening out the skin tone and lightening scars and hyperpigmentation. Turmeric is also antibacterial, which makes it great for wound healing.
I just want to note that turmeric can and definitely will stain just about anything!
What are some of your favorite ways to use turmeric? I’d love to hear how you add it to your skincare routine – or recipes!
