BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS!

Reading is one of my absolute favorite things to do. While I enjoy non fiction, for me there is no better feeling than getting fully engrossed in a good novel. I get so attached to characters and stories; it’s always a bit depressing when I finish a book. My husband and I joke about the post-novel sadness, that empty space between reads. Below are some that I read this year, in no particular order. (Sorry – I cannot write a book report on each of these but trust that I enjoyed them all!)

Probably my favorite if I had to pick one; Purity, Jonathan Franzen

My second favorite Franzen; Freedom, Jonathan Franzen

An undertaking but a riveting one; The Goldfinch, Donna Tartt

This one is still haunting me; The Secret History, Donna Tartt

A multifaceted love triangle. The Marriage Plot,  Jeffrey Eugenides

Another favorite;  Middlesex, Jeffrey Eugenides

I felt like reading some Roth! His writing makes my head spin. The Professor of Desire, Philip Roth

Easy reading; on ambition, love,  coming of age, and being of age. The Female Persuasion, Meg Wolitzer

Another easy, enjoyable read, though I found the protagonist frustrating at times. The Interestings, Meg Wolitzer

Brain candy. Conversations with Friends, Sally Rooney

A sad, generational saga. The Family Tabor, Cherise Wolas

Lonely, chilling. The Girls, Emma Cline

Easy reading albeit with some beautifully written moments. Sweetbitter, Stephanie Danler

Hard to get in to, but seriously could not put it down once the story unraveled. Since We Fell, Dennis Lehane

Had to include this, as it is staggering; paradigm shifting. Homo Deus, Yuval Noah Harari

Loved this due to my fascination with the medical field. The House of God, Samuel Shem

I mean, do I even need to explain the followup to Devil Wears Prada? It’s a fun, mindless read; When Life Gives You Lululemons, Lauren Weisberger.
